Have you heard of the marvelous tale of Mary Jones ?
Though this is not mere fiction but the true story of Mary Jones a 15 yr old Welsh girl from the 1800’s.
She so loved the Word that she walked 25 miles barefoot over a rugged mountainous region to buy her first bible.
For it was her heart’s desire to read stories from the Bible herself.
She had saved up for 6 years for this treasured book. She sold eggs, washed clothes, took care of other children, all to earn money. To own this prize became the desire of her heart.
“I know it’s a long ways, but God will go with me,” she said.
And she walked barefoot so that her shoes would not wear out.
What beautiful faith she exhibited!!! A mere 15 yr old had such a rare passion and tenacity.
What a difference we find in the generations of past …
The youth of the past exhibited innocence and purity. It was more common to find a love for virtue. Young ones who grieved over unholiness and wept over a lack of reverence for God.
I believe that before the advent of social media, there was an appetite for deeper things. An intellect that thrived on much more than 1 min Tik Tok videos.
Freedom from technology kept their minds sanctified. Simplicity fortifies the intellect, while a dependance on technology erodes it.
For those who lived in the countryside, a simple lifestyle abundant in nature drew forth a closeness with the Lord that was PRICELESS. ♥️
On my travels, I have come across numerous social media influencers.
Paris drew the most!
I have seen the reality of this lifestyle and it has disturbed me to the core to see what has come of the world….
May we return to more innocent times, when modesty was prized, intelligence thrived and innocence led to deep intimacy with the Lord.
